This is the new home for all of the various activities of Clawhammer Mike.


Clawhammer Mike is a amateur ethnomusicologist, traditional musician, busker and printmaker from Saint Paul, Minnesota.   

He is the founding force behing the Minnesota Fiddle Tunes Project and the Upper Midwest Folk Fiddlers (UMFF).  He has self published a book of mostly his transcriptions of regional fuddle music- Upper Midwest Folk Fiddlers Tunebook volume #1.  UMFF now has three chapters acroos the state of Minnesota that get together and play music from the tunebook.  He has led dozens of workshops, dance and performances across the Upper Midwest playing the regions forgotten fiddle music. He recently organized and produced the Upper Midwest Folk Fiddlers 2026 Online Fiddle Contest and other programs related to Upper Midwest fiddle music.

Mike has a love for Appalachian mountain music and country blues from the Deep South.  He routinely busks on the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis and plays across the Upper Midwest with the Saint Paul Mudsteppers. Mike took first place on banjo at the Minnesota State Fair's Fiddle Contest in the Heritage Division. He is also an active clawhammer banjo teach online and in Saint Paul.

Mike is also a printmaker, who has participated in festivals and shows across the region.  He specializes in one block, reduction, printmaking.  His themes incorporate his love of history, traditional music and dreamscapes.
